Geneen Roth is a New York Times bestselling author of self help books for
people with eating disorders.
Her books are based upon her own experiences and
often include stories from participants of her workshops.
For over 30 years,
Roth has been teaching others how to overcome emotional eating and cultivate
healthy habits with food.
Her books speak to overeaters, binge and purge eaters,
chronic dieters, and anyone who uses food as a substitute for love or as an
emotional release.
About Geneen Roth
Roth shares that she had
a deprived childhood and it led to a years-long struggle with compulsive eating
and chronic dieting. She felt food was the one thing she could control and the
one thing that wouldn't leave her by walking out or dying. Eventually she
realized her overeating was linked to her continual dieting and that it had an
emotional cause. When she resolved her emotional problems, and opened herself to
love, her weight stabilized.
Geneen Roth began to teach others what she
had learned and eventually compiled techniques they could use to overcome
compulsive eating. She wrote a book on the experiences with her students and
taught the techniques to readers too. Her books were bestsellers, and Roth
became more involved in hosting workshops and retreats to help people develop
their spiritual natures and break their bad habits with food.
Geneen
Roth was on the Oprah show on multiple occasions and has had many other media
appearances over the years including 20/20, Good Morning America, and The View.
She has been written about in several leading newspapers and magazines such as
Time, Cosmopolitan, and Elle.
The Message of Geneen Roth
Roth
teaches that constant dieting and compulsive eating have their roots in
spiritual and deeply personal issues. They are not only about food and body
image. She teaches that the relationship with food is an expression of deep
beliefs about the amount of joy, pain, or abundance people allow themselves to
have. Roth offers techniques that are based in kindness and understanding rather
than the usual poor self image responses that are punitive, harsh, and
unforgiving. Geneen Roth teaches seven sets of eating guidelines along with self
inquiry and meditation to cultivate natural eating.

Lost and Found: One Woman's Story of Losing Her Money and Finding Her Life" was
published in 2012 and is available as a book, ebook, and audio book. In this

food. She found there are many similarities such as emotional buying,
overspending followed by budgeting, feelings of insecurity, and self sabotage.
She discovered this after she lost much of her money in the Bernard Madoff
scandal. She faced uncertainty, financial turbulence, and a reversal of fortune
that created many of the same emotional triggers she had in her battle with
compulsive eating.

for overcoming compulsive eating. She is a popular speaker at self improvement

Roth has helped thousands of people resolve emotional issues, stabilize at a
