Low Self Esteem Signs
Before we get into the self esteem games, self esteem activities,
and self esteem exercises, it is important that you learn to
recognize the symptoms of low self esteem.
The low self esteem
signs tend to be quite subtle, or at least you think they are subtle
until you stop and take a moment to think about them.
Here
are some of the most common symptoms of low self esteem:
1.
You Live in Denial – People with low self esteem
tend to live in denial, denying your mind from thinking about events
just because you don’t want to deal with them. You may forget events
that have happened, even important events. You may also minimize the
gravity of serious problems, either physical, social, or mental.
Denying things in your mind is like avoiding taking medication just
because you don’t want to deal with the side effects, but the pain
still remains.
2.
You Blame Others for Everything
–When you have low self esteem, you start to think of yourself just
as a victim of the circumstances you find yourself in. Nothing is
your fault, as you think that you have absolutely no power to
control anything and thus no responsibility for your own life. While
this is convenient, the truth of the matter is that you are
responsible for your life, and thus you are to blame for things that
go wrong in your life.
3.
You Blame Yourself for
Everything – On the flip side, if you start to take the
blame for everything in your life, this is another sign of low self
esteem. You think that you are not good enough or smart enough to
make the right choices, and thus you are always making the wrong
choices. This leads you to think that you are to blame for
everything bad that happens in your life, and you take on a guilt
complex rather than a martyr complex.
4.
You Depend
on Others Too Much – Everyone has an identity, and some
people find that they value themselves more according to the way
that others see them than the way they see themselves. This external
locus is common, but people with low self esteem take it too far.
They depend on others for happiness and validation, and their lives
begin to crumble when they don’t receive the validation they are
desperate for.
5.
You Can’t Express How You Feel
– Those with low self esteem usually think that no one places value
on what they say, and thus they have a hard time expressing
themselves due to the fact that they feel they will be rejected. You
end up trying to suppress the feelings in your heart, and you may
try to numb yourself to the feelings just so you don’t have to try
to communicate with someone that will shut you out.
6.
You Can’t Say No – If you are letting people invade
your life and control your actions too much, it is a reflection of
your thinking that you aren’t able to make wise choices. You won’t
be able to say no to anyone, as you will be so intent on pleasing
them or making them happy. Many people just have a hard time saying
no to anything, and that is a sign of low self esteem.
They
aren’t really subtle signs, but you probably had no idea that they
were symptoms of low self esteem until you connected the dots. If
you find yourself doing any of these things, you may need to realize
that it’s time to start overcoming low self esteem.

A Few Examples of Games for Building Self Esteem
So what kind of games can you play to start overcoming low self
esteem and work on building self esteem in your life? Below are a
couple of examples of games you can play:
Interview
This game is designed to help you realize that you have real
skills and talents that you can bring to bear in life, and thus you
will see that you actually have self worth.
The way the game
is played is:
1. Each person playing the game is assigned a
different character that they are playing, and each character is
interviewing for a different type of job and job position.
2.
With their character in mind, each player has 5 minutes to think of
all the positive things they can bring to the job, things that they
actually have in their life. They can write them down on a resume,
using things like “I have excellent organizational skills” or “I am
good with people” to help them see what they can bring.
3. After
the time has passed, they have to attend the interview and explain
to the interviewer what talents and skills they can bring to the
job.
4. The interviewer hears them out, asks a few questions,
and lets them know if they are the right person for the job.
All
of the skills and talents that each person writes down on their list
will be actual talents and skills that they have, and making this
list will help them to realize that they really do have worth and
something to offer.
Compliments
This is a game that will help
a number of people to give each other compliments, as well as accept
them. Obviously the players will need to know each other, at least
be acquainted.
1. A number of chairs are set in a circle around
the room.
2. Each person is given a number, and all the numbers
are put on pieces of paper and placed in a had.
3. Each player
reaches into the hat and pulls out a number. The number that each
player pulls corresponds to the person that they will have to give
compliments to.
4. Each person takes a turning giving between 1
and 5 compliments to the person whose number they have pulled, and
the person has to accept the compliments as sincere.
This is
a great game for those who have a hard time hearing good things
about themselves, as it can help them to realize that people
actually do see good in them. It will also help them to find things
about themselves that others value, and can help to restore their
faith in themselves and a sense of self-worth.
